China calls for Confucius institutes to make improved contribution

Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong has called for Confucius institutes to tailor their teaching to local conditions and contribute to “building a community with a shared future for mankind.”

Paddington 2 gains at China box office

Paddington 2, the live-action, animated sequel featuring the titular bear, has had a successful weekend since it arrived in Chinese theaters on Friday.

With a score of up to 8.4 of 10 on the country’s popular film review website Douban, the sequel to the 2015 movie Paddington had surpassed the Chinese box-office blockbuster bench mark of 100 million yuan ($15.1 million) by Sunday. The sequel has been released in China in English, which has British actor Ben Whishaw voicing the bear and in Chinese, which has local actor Du Jiang doing the same.
Over the past six decades, the cute bear has been featured in more than 150 books and four TV series, making it one of the most popular animated characters in the world.

China has launched its first cyberspace writers’ village to encourage the development of online literature, reports

Zhang Wei, better known by the pen name “Tang Jia San Shao,” has become the first chief of the village, which is located by White Horse Lake in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province. Zhang has been China’s top-earning online writer for six consecutive years.

A shortlist of the 20 hottest Chinese words and Chinese characters of 2017 has been announced.

Words and characters on the list related to domestic topics include “share,” “cloud,” “new era,” and “kindergarten,” while those related to international issues include “nuclear,” “intelligence,” “AlphaGo,” and “gravitational wave.”

Panda-shaped food on offer on Xi’an-Chengdu bullet train

‘Wolf Warrior 2’ wins Best Film at China-ASEAN Film Festival

Chinese action film “Wolf Warrior 2,” the most successful box office for Chinese film in history, has won “Best Film” at the first China-ASEAN Film Festival, which took place on Monday, December 4, 2017 in Malaysia.

“Wolf Warrior 2” tells the story of a former Chinese special forces agent who fights against militants and mercenaries in Africa.
The film earned a record 5.68 billion yuan (around 859 million US dollars) in Chinese theatres.

China becomes focus of Istanbul film festival

China drew the attention as the focus country on Monday evening as the Rendezvous Istanbul International Film Festival marked its 20th anniversary in the most populous Turkish city.

A selection of 11 newly released Chinese films are being screened during the Chinese films’ week, as part of the efforts to boost exchanges and cooperation between China and Turkey on film and television production.

Fehmi Yasar, the chairman of Turkish Foundation of Cinema and Audiovisual Culture, is making a speech on the occasion.

China’s animation wins first prize of Anilogue International Animation Festival in Hungary

The animation by Chinese director Liang Xuan and Zhang Chun “Big Fish and Begonia” won the first prize of the full-length film category of the 15th Anilogue International Animation Festival on Sunday.
