Tencent competes with Alibaba by investing in new grocery business

Yonghui Superstores announced that it has reached an agreement with Chinese tech giant Tencent over the stake transfer of its subsidiary company Yonghui Yunchang, reports the Beijing News.
Tencent has reportedly agreed to increase investment in order to gain a 15-percent stake in Yonghui Yunchang, which has been promoting its new grocery business, Super Species.

Tencent Chairman joins as founding sponsor of Breakthrough Prize

The Breakthrough Prize announced Saturday that Ma Huateng, aslo known as Pony Ma, founder and chairman of Tencent will join as one of its distinguished founding sponsors.

Tencent, founded in November. 1998, is a leading provider of Internet value added services in China and one of the biggest gaming and entertainment company in the world.

The Breakthrough Prize, which is the largest individual monetary prize in science, recognizes top achievements in Life Sciences, Fundamental Physics and Mathematics. Ma will join co-sponsors Sergey Brin (Google), Yuri Milner (DST Global) and Julia Milner, Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook) and Priscilla Chan (Chan Zuckerberg Initiative), and Anne Wojcicki (23andMe) to show appreciation and support for the world’s leading scientists in these fields. Tencent gains exclusive agency rights of popular game PUBG in China

Chinese social networking giant Tencent has announced a new deal with South Korea’s Bluehole Studio for the exclusive rights for the popular PC game “Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds” in China.

“Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds,” or PUBG, has become a hit game since its release in March, 2017. It has been sold over 20 million copies worldwide, breaking multiple records.
